I’m a litlle bit younger but I do remember when it came out. I probably was in some kind of bubble, but it seemed that everybody had this album. I think the Brazilian MTV had just arrived in my region (I’m from the Northeast, and MTV started in Rio and São Paulo if I’m not mistaken). Their videos helped a lot to add to their popularity.

I ended up liking Pinkerton the most, we even user to cover El Scorcho, but the Blue Album is undeniably a classic. 30 years! Really??

I love that story!! It’s amazing the reach that some music has. And right…30 years? So wild!

I turn 54 in June, and I've found that music discovery as well as discussion of music past and present has found me a new scene, full of like-aged peers and people who want to talk about past favorites and new finds.

I still get a thrill out of listen to the Blue Album and Pinkerton, even while I avidly seek out new listens.

I love that music allows me to appreciate and share what I love. Past, present, and near future.

Thanks for the memories and the trip back to the 90s.

I’m right there with you! I turn 52 in May and I’m still finding and loving new music all the time.

The music of the late 80s/early 90s though is what resonates most with me. It resonated so much that I was compelled to write a book about the era and my time living through it! There’s just something about it!!

Crazy to think that that Sweater song band from mid-90s middle school would end up being one of the best albums of our lifetimes. Mid-90s music was its own golden age.

You’re not wrong. That’s one of the things that made that era so great. Anything was possible. Bands were free to be different and weird.

I love Weezer and have yet

to see them perform. Which needs to be remedied.

Yes it does. I believe most of 25 they’re in Europe with a few random dates in the US. But when/if you get the opportunity, take it!

I will!

Great piece, Rob. An iconic album to say the least. I was in university when it dropped. My dealer then used to play it all the time lol.

Haha, that’s amazing!!

I love Weezer! Last December, my youngest (12 then), who has Tourette’s, got stuck on Buddy Holly by Weezer. After weeks of hearing him sing and play Buddy Holly constantly, I was like “They have a whole bunch of songs and albums!” The Blue album became his favorite and I love it!

And you weren’t wrong, Kristin. They’ve got a huge catalog to explore. I hope your son finds more songs because of it!

One of my favorite bands! I used to blast their CDs in my car on my way to work, trying to harmonize with them. I never saw them perform live though.

They are very blastable!! I don’t believe that’s a word but it works. They’re excellent live so hopefully you catch them at some point.
