Let's Get to Know Each Other
My name is Rob and I'm a slacker. A Gen X writer & author fascinated by people, music, and culture. I write to learn and share. I'll show you mine if you show me yours.
Thank you for getting this far
Time is limited and we’re inundated with content so let me be brief.
A voice for the “Forgotten Generation”
I’m a Gen X kid trapped in a middle-aged body. My life, and experiences as a writer and author, have taught me lessons that I’ve been sharing for over 20 years which I now plan to bring to you. Through music, therapy, and culture, I’ve done and seen things that have shaped me as a human being and I know I’m not alone in that assesment.
Looking California and feeling Minnesota
Slackers Unite sits at the intersection of music and culture. I’ve studied, researched, and written about the connection between music, culture, and human interaction for years and I will write about that here. In my experience, one thing is clear; music is an art that allows us to shed our skin and become who we truly are. Never mind the person the rest of the world sees, that’s all stuff and nonsense. This is a place to freely be who you’ve always intended but perhaps had some trouble arriving at.
Always read the liner notes
Remember diving into the liner notes of the most recent album you bought? That was my favorite thing to do after reading the lyrics (assuming that they were provided of course). This is where the nitty-gritty lives. The liner notes for Slackers Unite are as follows:
I will post 2-3 times per week (for now)
All content will be free (for now)
The focus will always be music and culture and how it affects society at large
I love conversation so I hope you will engage. I like praise…just kidding. I prefer a solid back and forth with your opinions and takes so I can learn and see things I may not have considered before
I view these “liner notes” as fluid because life is always evolving but for now, this is how I see the newsletter starting off.
It’s nice to meet you
Being a card-carrying member of Generation X, I’m used to meeting people in person. It’s how we did it back then. But alas, I’ve adapted to the ways (well, some anyway) of the digital world and would love for you to subscribe to Slackers Unite so we can get to know one another.
Elvis has left the building
You see, if you’re of a certain age, any time an event ended or someone left a room, inevitably someone would say “Elvis has left the building”. A reference to the end of every Elvis Presley concert urging fans to refrain from sticking around to try and catch a glimpse of him after the show. Old habits die hard I guess.
My sincere thanks goes out to you for visiting me here at Slackers Unite. It’s humbling and exciting all at once. My goal is that you will enjoy yourself during each subsequent visit and if you don’t, please tell me why…I’m here for you as much as I am for me. Rock on!
Well, let’s go then!
